VILLANELLE
Poets have used villanelles for a variety of subjects, but all good villanelles have two things in common. First, villanelles have strong opening tercets, with the first and third providing two-barreled refrain. They also gradually build in tone and intensity from one stanza to the next.
THE HOUSE ON THE HILL
by Edwin Arlington Robinson
They are all gone away
The House is shut and still,
There is nothing more to say.
Through broken walls and gray
The winds blow bleak and shrill:
They are all gone away.
Nor there is one to-day
To speak them good or ill:
There is nothing more to say.
Why is it then we stray
Around the sunken sill?
They are all gone away,
And our poor fancy-play
For them is wasted skill:
There is nothing more to say.
There is ruin and decay
In the House on the Hill:
They are all gone away,
There is nothing more to say.
Here's my own work of villanelle...
PET
A pet is like a human
Because they can be loving
It's a pleasure to have one
When they came, they brought us fun
Especially when cuddling,
A pet is like a human
When they grow up they began
A part of the family,
It's a pleasure to have one
They already know their names
When hungry they are crying
A pet is like a human
They follow all your commands
Welcomed you when arriving
It's a pleasure to have one
Pets are really important
'Cause they gave a warm feeling
A pet is like a human
It's a pleasure to have one
